AHRM Inc. Launches Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Services

Posted on Wed, Nov 29, 2017

Buffalo, NY (November 29, 2017) – AHRM Inc. - a global CRO with a focus in Health Economics and Outcomes Research  - announced today the launch of enhanced analytical capabilities including artificial intelligence and machine learning.  “Our enhanced analytical capabilities are in part due to direct access to supercomputing resources located at our headquarters in Buffalo, NY.  AHRM Inc. has been partnering with the Center for Computational Research (CCR) located at the University at Buffalo,  New York State Center of Excellence in Bioinformatics & Life Sciences over the past year to utilize their clusters for healthcare research” said Raf Magar, CEO of AHRM Inc.

Currently AHRM has the capacity to employ up to 3,500 cores for computational tasks—with plans to increase that number to 10,000 cores in late 2018—as well as continually-expanding volumes of high-speed and secure data storage. Dr. Christopher Tyson, Data Scientist for AHRM, believes that “with our enhanced computing capabilities, we will be able to fully explore the impact that machine learning can have within the healthcare industry. Having worked with these methods applied to questions in bioinformatics and biophysics,” he continued, “it will be exciting to see how we can leverage these techniques to provide solutions to deliver care to patients more efficiently and cost-effectively. We at AHRM perceive that the future of healthcare will involve man and machine working together to optimally predict, diagnose, and treat—or perhaps even avoid—ailments.” However, Dr. Tyson remarks “it is important to note that machine learning is not a catch-all to every problem, and in fact without proper understanding of the models, the data, and the desired outcomes, machine learning can often fail to deliver. AHRM’s inter-disciplinary team has experience in the healthcare industry, computational methods, natural sciences, and mathematics which provides the ability to understand each problem individually and prescribe a unique solution.”

AHRM Inc. has already benefited from its enhanced computing capabilities.  At present, AHRM is currently in discussion with an EMR provider to be the exclusive analytic vendor to provide customized analysis of de-identified patient medical records that can help providers better understand best practices, cost-effective care and potentially anticipate patterns of disease progression that may have not been identified previously.

While machine learning has existed in some form since the mid-20th century, the recent availability of computational infrastructure to collect and process large amounts of data has made practical implementation of such techniques commercially viable. Machine learning and artificial intelligence influence the interaction between humans and the world around them every day, such as more efficient operation of the electrical grid, voice recognition systems, automotive safety features, or online experiences. With continual research into new methods for machine learning and artificial intelligence, the ability to reveal incredibly complex relationships in human health and the delivery of care will likewise become ubiquitous over the coming years.
